On Wednesday, September 27, the Sparta High School Girls Tennis
Team hosted the HWS tournament. It was a success for the team;
they won third place overall, beating 13 other high school teams.
In first doubles, Sara Schwarz and Mckaela Reekie won first place.
In second doubles, Michelle Kujalowicz, and Emilie Fagan
won second place. Sara and Mckaela work great together as partners.
They help uplift one another throughout playing, especially in the
crucial moments. Sara and Mckaela would say things like
"We got this," "Be ready," and "One point at a time" to motivate one another.
Emilie Fagan said, "I don't focus on what I'm up against;
I focus on how I play and how to improve."
In any sport, tennis or not, the mental game is crucial.
Having a strong mindset can get you far, and this was evident in
Emilie's case as she and Michelle got second place overall.
Coach Lowery and Coach Wille were there all day,
giving the team encouragement and advice.
Emily Dondero, third singles, said, "The coaches not only
help us think strategically and plan to win point by point,
but they tell us encouraging statements and try to
make us laugh even when our game isn't the best."
The team's determination and mental strength led
them to get third place, beating the 13 other schools
that entered the tournament. Coaches and players
maintaining a positive attitude in any sport can be crucial to success.
