SHS CLUBS PART 2

SHS Clubs Part 2

Welcome to the second part of the introduction to clubs at SHS! These clubs are more focused on the visual and performing arts, as well as student government. There are a few clubs that are not listed in this article, so if you don’t see what you’re looking for or you want to learn more about any particular club please visit the Sparta High School’s activity home page at sparta.org! As mentioned before ALL are welcome and encouraged to pursue any clubs that Sparta has to offer and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming meetings! 


Student Government - The student government activities within Sparta High School are composed of 5 different clubs: Student Counsel, Class of 2023, Class of 2024, Class of 2025, or the Class of 2026. The students in this club act as representatives of the student body. 


Student Council- These students act as representatives for the entirety of the student body at Sparta High School. Students in this club help make recommendations to better student life at Sparta, and provide insight into new policies or issues they would like enacted for the betterment of the students. Visual And Performing Arts Clubs

Art Club- Art club is a place where students have the opportunity to create and complete projects, either for themselves or for the community. It is a great environment for aspiring artists to meet others within the school, learn new things, and try new artistic materials. There is a one time joining fee of $5 for materials, but stopping by to check out the club is free! Students do not have to currently be enrolled in an art class to join! Stop by room 221, or 218 for more details or reach out to Mrs. Kucher- Csatlos for more information! 


Chamber Club- Chamber Club is an inclusive music environment, where students can learn fun music, enjoy camaraderie, and even play at local gigs like back to school night, honor society inductions, weddings, celebrations and more. To join the fun contact Ms. Bach or visit the orchestra room in room 525. 


Chorus 

Blue Nights-  Is a men’s choir group specializing in deeper voices. For those interested in joining, no auditions are required. There is a google classroom page linked on the Sparta Activities Website. For more information see Mrs. Lopez or stop by the choir room 517. 


Freshman Select Choir- Freshmen Select choir is a group of roughly 30 members, including both male and females. This choir does require an audition but members are welcome to sing in concerts and at other music festivals. Rehearsals are after school one a week!  Grades 7-9 are welcome. For more information contact Mrs. Lopez or stop by room 517. 


Nightingales- Nightingales is a female choir that meets once a week in the evenings. All students, choir members or not are welcome to join Nightingales. The Nightingales perform at concerts, and other festivals. No audition is necessary for this choir. For more information please reach out to Mrs. Lopez or stop by room 517. 


Shacapella- Shacapelle focuses on A Cappelle music, this choir does require an audition and is composed of roughly 16 members. It is composed of both male and female voices. For those interested in beatboxing, an audition is required but there is a space for you! For more information, reach out to Mrs. Lopez or stop by room 517. 


Drama Club- Drama Club allows students to get on stage and prepare poems, monologues, and complete scenes, improvisations ,poetry out loud,  and NJ Drama and Forensics league. This year's drama will be Middletown by Will Eno. For more information, reach out to Mr. Stokes or visit room 414. 


Jazz Band- Jazz band is a fun club created for the purpose of developing an appreciation for Jazz music. Jazz band consists of two performing groups that are listed below. Both of these groups participate in shows, performances, festivals and competitions. 

Blues Inc- Blues Inc is a more advanced Jazz group and requires an audition for entry. This group focuses on ensemble playing, concerts, as well as competitions and festivals. For more information please reach out to Mr. Lopez or stop by the band room for more information. 


Blues Sanction - Blues Sanction is the “junior” jazz band for those who are new or less experienced Jazz players. This band also requires an audition and also focuses on ensemble playing, concerts, competitions, festivals and community work. For more information please reach out to Dr. Gianuzzi or stop by the band room. 


Literary Magazine(Beginnings)- The Sparta Literary Magazine, Beginnings, allows students with all different artistic and literary talents to submit their work and have it published annually. This includes but is not limited to poetry, photography, short stories, etc. For more information please reach out to Ms. Graham or stop by room 231. 


Marching Band/ Color Guard- We’re already pretty deep into marching band and color guard season but for those of you interested in seeing what it’s all about, and are interested in perhaps joining, you’re always welcome to go to one of the Sparta Football games and see them in action. For more information please contact Mr. Tomlin or Mr. Lopez, or stop by the Band room for marching band or reach out to Mrs. Tomlin about Color guard. 


Newspaper- The Oracle- Want to be a part of the school newspaper? Oracle might just be the place for you. With meetings every Monday during lunch ALL are welcome to join! The Oracle publishes every Friday, giving students plenty of opportunities to put themselves out there and get their voices heard. Strings Club- Want to play music with other music lovers? Look no further, strings club is the place for you. Unlike Chamber Music Club which involves mostly strings instruments, Strings Club welcomes more varieties of wind, brass, and acoustic instruments, with musicians who just want to have a great time. Theater Productions-  The goal of the theater productions club is to put on two full length productions: The Fall Drama; and the Spring Musical. This club has a place for everyone, and provides people with theatrical experience on stage that can help with confidence, public speaking, poise, etc. For more information please visit the sparta.org website 


Yearbook Club- (Olympian)- Want to participate in recording all of this year's fun and exciting memories at Sparta High School? Then the Yearbook club is definitely the place for you! It gives students the ability to pursue multiple different hobbies including but not limited to: photography, editing, writing, marketing, sales, design, and layout. This club gives students the opportunity to take pride in their work and see the end result as a finished product at the end of each school year. Girl Up- Girl up is an all inclusive club that creates a safe environment for students to come together and discuss modern issues that pertain particularly to women. Girl up was created to unite girls everywhere, and promote the idea of girls helping girls. It also hopes to help young people everywhere find their voices and speak out for what they believe in.
