The world today houses more than 260 million children who are without schooling. Circumstances varying from child labor, child marriage, climate change, conflict of war, disability, lack of funding, gender, hunger, journey to school, lack of teachers, refugee crisis, sanitation, violence and more prohibit children from receiving an education.
Being taught is a great privilege for all of us at Sparta High School. We often take for granted the opportunity we have as a group of students, to learn from the SHS faculty. Our lives would be immensely different if we had not grown up gaining the knowledge we learn at school every day.
Teachers play a pivotal role in our lives, and play a big part in determining our futures. Many kids see teachers as inspirations, whether it be following in a teacher's footsteps, or finding their path through their favorite subject. The mannerisms and ideas of a class are often a reflection of the teacher present, and as a school we are lucky to have so many great role models in our classrooms.
In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt convinced congress that there must be a day for teachers to be recognized. In years afterward, teacher's appreciation week was celebrated to give a spotlight to the wonderful people who work at schools.
Last week, starting on May 3, we recognized all that teachers do. As students we are truly privileged to have the teachers, the school, the opportunities and the community that Sparta offers. May we always be #SpartanStrong, thank you today and everyday after!
