“It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity,” and apparently just as timeless 61 years later. On November 24, 1958 a whole audience was drawn into the fifth dimension with Rod Serling’s classic introduction into the twilight zone. Now, that same audience, joined by new viewers, are lured back into that “middle ground between science and superstition” with a whole new cast of characters.
While not Rod Serling, Jordan Peele still makes those opening words sound just as they did all those years ago. This time audiences are welcomed back to the twilight zone in “The Comedian,” which follows a stand-up comedian (Kumail Nanjiani) who makes a risky deal to be successful in his career, only to be faced with unimaginable consequences he never could have foreseen. The show then aired “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet.” True fans would recognize the homage paid to one of the original episodes titled “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.” However, this new episode stars Adam Scott as a worrisome journalist convinced his flight is doomed, even if everyone else thinks he is mad.

Each episode in the original series was given only twenty minutes to incorporate a valuable life lesson at the end of each weird story. The new episodes are much longer than the original but still grasp the audience’s attention and so far never fail to share the overall moral of the story. Something unique that Rod Serling was able to do in his show was create a plot that only he could imagine and that he could know the ending to. What's remarkable about the original show is that there were so many plot twists and character developments that the viewers could not have seen coming. While it's not the same as Rod Serling, Jordan Peele does a great job with delivering those bone chilling stories with life lessons that stick with audiences forever.
