Honors Choir Performs At Carnegie Hall

Written by: Lauren Groff

On Saturday, May 25, the Sparta High School Honors Choir performed with a MidAmerica Productions choir ensemble at Carnegie Hall. The ensemble consisted of choirs hailing from as far as York College in Toronto, Canada. The group, accompanied by the New England Symphonic Ensemble, sang the Faure’ Requiem on stage for a live audience.

Throughout the following week, students attended mandatory intensive rehearsals at the New York City Midtown Hilton. Rehearsals were about four hours in duration and allowed for the conglomeration of choirs to have a chance to sing together. After a final morning rehearsal on the day of the concert, students had the rest of the afternoon to explore the city with parent chaperones until they appeared on stage at 9:30 p.m.

“It was such a unique and extraordinary experience to travel and perform,” quoted SHS Choir President and Senior, Claire Riley. “It truly felt like I was professional performer.”

The NYC performance marks the last time the 2018-2019 SHS Honors Choir will sing on stage together with its graduating seniors. The choir is set to sing at graduation in June.
