SHS MUSICIANS PERFORM AT VIRGINIA BEACH
By Hayley Lane
Musicians of SHS finally took their long awaited trip to Virginia Beach from Friday, March 25th to Monday, March 28th. The eight hour bus ride took the students from Sparta, all the way to the Sandcastle Beachfront hotel in Virginia. Here’s what the students were up to!
On Friday night, SHS arrived at the hotel at around 4:30. Students dressed up for a dinner cruise in Norfolk with a buffet, dance floor, and a beautiful sunset view from the deck.
On Saturday, everyone departed to Old Dominion University for specialized workshops directed by Dr. Nancy Klein (choral), Dr. Paul Sanho Kim (orchestra), and Dr. Alexander Trevino. Each professor worked with the ensembles to improve their sound. After the workshop, the school headed to the Nauticus Museum and the Battleship Wisconsin, where students explored and the SHS choir sang “The Navy Hymn” on the battleship.
On Sunday, SHS headed to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for a day filled with rollercoasters, shows, and theme park food! Lucky students even got to ride the newest roller coaster, Pantheon, before it was having complications. That night, the school headed to Colonial Williamsburg for an outdoor ghost tour. Some students were even able to capture some frightening photos.
On Monday, SHS had free time to walk around the boardwalk and shops of Virginia Beach. Some students and staff went to cafe’s, while others went to shops and bought t-shirts and souvenirs. At 12:00pm, SHS departed V.A. for N.J., and students returned home at around 8:30pm.
Overall, the trip was a success! Cold and windy weather was not able to ruin the students' fun, and SHS students cannot wait to see what trips are to come in the future.
