Learn About Ramadan!

 By: Sawsan Srour

April 13 marked the beginning of the holy and sacred month of Ramadan for about 1.6 billion Muslims across the globe. This month is believed to have been the time where God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him) in Laylat al-Qadr which translates to “The Night of Power”.

Throughout the entire month, Muslims will engage in a fast from sunrise to sunset. This fast is deemed more than an abstinence of food and drink but rather a time of spiritual discipline, “deep contemplation of one's relationship with God, extra prayer, increased charity and generosity, and intense study of the Quran”.

Below are pictures of how Muslims around the world worship and celebrate during this joyous time of the year!
